Celebrating tradition

Often considered one of the first formalized downhill races in the history of alpine sport and the first in North America, the men of Dartmouth College’s Dartmouth Outing Club took to Mount Moosilauke in the state of New Hampshire to put their wooden skis to the test on a makeshift course of planted posts designating the twists and turns of what was to become the future site of the USA’s National Downhill slalom 5 years later. While often debated, the Outing Club’s first Mount Moosliauke race adventure is most widely recognized as the year 1927.

Designed by Tradition

Intrepid souls from the Dartmouth Outing Club would race down the carriage road from their headquarters on Mt. Moosilauke, starting the National Slalom in 1927 which was instrumental in bringing ski racing into the mainstream in the United States.
